SchoolsEducational opportunities are plentiful in Cumberland County. For school age children, Cumberland County offers ten elementary schools and one high school, with approximately 6700 students enrolled in the school system. Our students consistently score near the top of all state-wide tests. The schools are currently undergoing a renovation, with two new elementary schools just being completed in the last 4 years. A 7.2 million dollar renovation project encompassing three others is currently under way. The elementary schools are zoned by the areas in which you reside. A student may attend a different school IF at the start of school there is space available in the class and if private transport is available to them.The Tennessee Technology Center, serving over 1400 students annually, provides a variety of instruction with full-time 'hands-on; training programs and on-the-job experience. From auto body to practical nursing to business and computers; there is a program here to meet the needs of many. The Cumberland County Higher Education Center, a collaborative effort of Roane State Community College and Tennessee Technological University, opened its doors in 1989, with a permanent 30,000 square facility just being completed in 1998. Freshman and sophomore level classes leading to an Associates degree or Technical Certificate are available to all. Students may select programs parallel to many universities for a smooth transition to a 4-year college. The center also offers continuing education courses and business and industry training.
